When I was pregnant I blogged about all of the “experts” that gave me advice day in and day out. Now that I’m losing weight (again!), the experts are coming out! It’s amazing how much misinformation is out there. From low carb to no carb, low reps to high reps, it’s no wonder how and why people are so confused on what to do.
Even some of the certified “experts” have a different philosophy than what I subscribe to. Just because someone did great and lost 14 pounds of fat on a Candida diet doesn’t mean that it’s the best approach for me. And to say that if I did X amount of reps on a particular body part that would give me exactly the results I’m looking for. Really? How is that since you didn’t even ask me what my goals are?
It is hard for me to sit back and listen to this unsolicited advice. But I have a hard time telling people that I actually have knowledge in this field because I don’t feel comfortable doing so just yet. I’m sure they would think that if I had the knowledge, why didn’t I put it to use sooner (another blog). You know the saying, “You can’t judge a book by it’s cover”. Just because I don’t look the part (right now) doesn’t mean I don’t have a clue what to do in the gym or what to feed my body.
My point in this blog is that everyone, certified and uncertified, has their own philosophy. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. And as a professional trainer and/or coach, I believe that it’s crucial to ask about a person’s goals and their health background, and to really get to know their true needs. What gives me results may not give you the same results.
