About Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Sciences

Applied Physiology and Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or Exercise Physiology (going forward as ES) is the study of anatomical physiological, and psychological consquences to human movement and their relationship to health and disease.

ES studies how the body functions in response to acute and chronic exercise. This field is the basis for understanding concepts of strength and conditioning of athletes as well as exercise prescription for healthy and diseased populations. ES’s are given a broad-based education in subjects such as chemistry, physics and biology. ES combines sound theoretical knowledge as well as practical skills for exercise testing and prescription for the purpose of improving sport performance and general health.

ES’s generally work in exercise physiology, cardiac rehabilitation, biomechanics, personal fitness services, or as an exercise specialist in corporate or private fitness centers and sports medicine clinics. ES’s serve in a variety of roles in both the public and private sectors such as sport scientists, strength and conditioning coaches, development officers and consultants. The health industry employs ES’s in health education/promotion, cardiac/respiratory technicians and as exercise scientists.
