Today as my daughter was crying hysterically in the car, I realized that she was so focused on one thing that she couldn’t think about anything else at that moment. She knew she wanted her “blankie” and kept repeating it over and over. I was driving and tried to get her attention by singing, pointing to a bird, anything to distract her but she wasn’t having it. I finally pulled over and handed her “blankie” to her and she calmed down right away. It made me think about my goals, my commitment to those goals and the laser focus it will take to reach them.
I made several changes with my lifestyle about 9 weeks ago. Within the first 2 weeks of making these changes I went on vacation and in the 4th week I attended 2 separate birthday lunches for co-workers. I didn’t waver at all during those times. I prepped my meals and took them with me on vacay, I got all my workouts in during vacay, and I chose not to order when we went out to lunch each time. Yes, it was tough doing the prep and planning, finding a gym in each town that we were visiting, and to deal with the questions/comments when I didn’t order lunch. It made me stronger in my resolve and today I look back and I’m thankful for the effort I put in because I probably wouldn’t have gotten the results that I can show for it today. There have been other challenges along the way but because I dealt with the more difficult challenges earlier on, everything else has been easy to manage.
In thinking about my daughter’s desire for that blanket, it makes me realize that I need that kind of commitment and focus for my journey. SMART goals, a strong commitment, and laser focus…what a great lesson from a 2 year old!
